You won't have many fumes IF you run breather to a PCV valve, or the vac port on the side of a late SU carby.
But if you run breather hoses into a catch tank, or fit the Bling (useless) K&N etc breather filters, YES it'll be a bit smelly.

i will confess to having the bling breather. the only one my car has is coming off the flywheel housing i think... none on the rocker cover and none on the timing cover or the plate under the extractors....

should i get rid of the bling one and plumb it back in somewhere?

I run it to a straight Toyota PCV valve, then into the Weber manifold.
You can do this with any manifold, or of you have a late SU, run the hose direct to the vac port on the carby instead.
A PCV valve works better though.

So i can ratt a pcv valve off a car a U-pull-it?

Doc, do you do anything with the one off the rocker cover? (my rocker doesn't have one, just curious)

i'll post a pic of my SU at some stage as it's got most things blanked off....

net at home is out at the moment, SA weather has caused havoc with phone lines, just sneaking a few minutes at work now...

back at home and the phone line's fixed. Yay!

Doc, is the pcv valve the straight bit of brass in the pipe? and everything else is just balancing it across manifold? or is the valve the T shaped bit on the left branch of the maniold?

here's my SU do i run it the bit blocked off just near the fuel bowl that's blanked off with the white pipe and stainless bolt?

cheers.

That spout on the rocker cover is blind, never drilled out.

Yes the PCV valve is that straight bit in the top of the hose.

Yes you can run a hose to that fitting you have there. No PCV valve needed this way.

At $27 (from Repco) for a new valve why would you use a grotty old one from a wreckers...?

Here's another pic of it- it fits 3/8 hose.
