This Photo was give to us by a friend. We are trying to put an age to the Mini as our friends father worked at the mini plant when they started to make the Mini's in England (He is the Driver of the mini in the photo). But this does not look like, as he said to us "This is the First Mini in London". So we are looking to see if someone can put a date on the plates. What could the S & A mean, ect. It has to be before 1964 as he arrived in Aust in 64.
(Please note that the numbers are back the front. Should read 230XMT,
S & A, and the number 63.) Not sure what happened here!

Sorry can't help you with the car but the picture was processed with the negative back to front. Note that the driver is on the wrong side of the car

Can't you simply do a mirror image of the photo, most photo hosting sites and programs have this feature.

IN uk dont the letters that start a number plate stand for a specific year?

You could always try the brittish RTA (not sure whats called)?

You said it had to be before 64, but i think it may have been not long before that as it looks to have the cutout for brake cooling on the front valance, im not sure when this was introduced in england?

But the early ones went right along

I would suggest 62 or earlier A reg started in 63 but not in January .. so "63" = 63 ???? S&A = Stewart and Ardern ???

Cheers

It doesn't look to have roof drain holes so it is early.

Flapper, are you trying to date the car or the date that the photo was taken?

Some of the guys on the Pommie forums will nail that number straight away. They will probably even know the area that the plates were issued. Try the Mk1 Performance site.

Rego puts it pre 63, I'd say no drain holes, no door handle bosses, looks like no windscreen rubber recess, so.......

59, or real early 60, definately pre61!

Oh and yes, S and A.....Stewart and Ardern. 8)

Just my opinion......(I've been wrong before)

Think I'll slink off now

like Mad Matt....

Going...

Gone :?:

Bumper overriders and budgie perches were used on Super Deluxe trim Minis in UK, not just on Coopers.
