Hi everyone,

I know there have been previous topics on this, but I'm looking for current info regarding Vic Club Rego.

From reading past topics, there was a lot of talk about a 90 day log book. Has this come in? The vicroads site didn't say much.

At the same time, I'd consider becoming a VMCi member. Do you have to have been a member for a certain amount of time before having a car registered through the club?

My interest in the rego is for my original '62 850. It's a bit depressing seeing it sitting in the back shed not doing a lot, as full registration is a bit costly at the moment, and my other 850 is almost ready for the road.
I'd like to be able to use it for my school formal next term, how hard/easy is it to get a 'special use' permit or similar?

Also, what's the current cost? Is the $38 correct on the vicroads site?

Thanks in advance,
Evan.

1. Not yet. It is getting closer but still not signed off.
2. No waiting, just join up and go (you'll need a RWC for your car of course).
3. Not sure whether a school formal would fit in the special use category. If you join the club we'll break open the rule book and try and nut it out. If it fits the criteria then we would just write one out (or whatever the process is) - I don't think it has to go through VicRoads.
4. No, it's around $100 from memory but still a lot cheaper than full reg.

cheers,
Paul
(VMCI Pres.)

is this confirmed, or is it a bit of a rumour like I've read about in other topics? :)
if it is happening, that'd be a bit of a bigger reason to get the rego. Being where I am means I wouldn't be out much at Club events.

anyone think a Unregisted Vehicle Permit would be able to be used for my reason? the vicroads website says they can be used for floats etc, in carnivals and parades

Get club plates and get a special use permit for your formal should not be a problem. I got one this week to take my Moke to work on Saturday.

Cheers,

I first interpreted that way but unfortunately it's not the case.
Not the best of wording that's for sure.

I tried to get an Unregistered Vehicle Permit to use a car for a wedding and VicRoads said NO.

So unless your formal is at the Mardi Gras, then I think you will probably receive the same answer....

Cheers,

I was thinking that perhaps this proposed system best serves to remove the grey areas of what you can, and cannot do with a club registered vehicle, and turn it into black and white.

Yep, the people behind the new system want to eliminate as many grey areas as possible. When you can use it will be crystal clear - 90 calendar days for whatever reason you wish. Which cars will be eligible doesn't change but the issue of excessive modifications will probably be a bit more prominent. I honestly don't know where the line will fall with regards to engine swaps (VTEC, Starlet) and head swaps (i.e. BMW, Honda) but would think that period mods would be OK if this is left to the club's discretion. If it is VicRoads that decides such things we could be in for a bumpy ride as Minis seem to be more modified than your average classic car.

That would be great :)

Just an another question,
For example, if I had a car on Club Rego through VMCi, can I go to events organized by any club in Victoria? Do I need to be a member of the other clubs?

Evan.
