998 Turbo is cheap-er ;)...rebuilding a 1275 is not...in fact finding a 1275 in the first place costs you enough..

You could probably pick up a 998 for free

and, personally speaking, they are great bang for buck.....
There was only 1 1275 at the dyno day that pipped me.. and even then by 0.8 of a HP ! (race-prepped 1400cc... )

most people will GIVE you a 998, but charge you your first-born for a 1275 ...... great economy when you blow your first engine!

you'd have to rebuild a smallbore to take boost, so it works out about the same

Rebuilding either a small bore or a 1275, there's not much in it. If you are going to boost either you would want it rebuilt.

Build whatcha got.. :P My next will be a 1410 or 1430 stroker. Hold the huffers/hairdryers, it's N/A.

??? Got no Mk4s here in the land of Oz.. we stopped making/getting Minis in `78.. and even then they were basically a Mk1 with a Clubbie front & Mk2 lights..
kazjim is pumping 10-14 psi into the poor 998 turbo, I think. It goes bloody hard for a 998....

On earlier ones the main mechanical difference is the front subframe is solid mounted for better steering response.
The other main mech difference is all Oz Minis got the Mk1 steering rack, 2.3 turns, but a bigger turning circle.
Of course our doors and trim were different, but WTF they are all Minis..

In Oz the roundnose Minis ceased production in 1971, we then got only Clubbies until the bitter end in 1978.
Mokes were built until 1981-2.
