Think this is a great idea. :o
I do not come from a mechanical background (and feel deprived :( ) but am always willing to learn and keen to get my hands dirty.
Coincidentally I was reading PhatKat's old (2009) 'how to' list to strip and paint one's car. Would be great if we had pics too, particularly for other more technical jobs.
How about running impromptu face-to-face 'how to' sessions? We could organise something for Sydney? Any takers. I would love to learn to weld.

:D Marc

I have just created a sticky. You can find it at the top of MC or follow this link.
