Does the 56-9128 fit both HS2 as well as HS4s? What can I expect to pay for a pair?

doesn't answer your question, but don't use K&N's if you spend any time on dirt roads... they flow a lot of air, but at the expense of letting fine particles through

Not thinking I'll be on dirt - reason I asked the question is some sites say the above number fits HS4 only and some say HS4 and HS2 but there is also another with central hole that is listed for HS2 ( 56-1630) I'm easily confused :?

Now I've found an off set one for twin HS2s :? :?

I really can't agree with that - where did you get this idea? They filter down to micron size on all the tests I've seen.

Just read Keith Calvers testing of K&N cone filters http://www.calverst.com/cc110f.htm

Guess the best is an element only in the standard case - anyone have some other thoughts?

Well my experience with K&N is to do with sidedrafts and fitment versus overall filter media area. The problem is that all K&N's have a back plate which is not the best design to maximise filter media area, and it also makes it a pain in the rear to remove for cleaning.

On a dellorto/webber even with a box cut, the biggest you can fit on there is probably 3inch oval filter. Now since the filter is 11x4 oval this gives approx 132sq inches of filter media area. I could only fit a 2inch filter (and I have a weber box!) which means it's even less at 88sq inches.

A piper cross double ramtube sock is approximately 176sq inches. Morale of the story is
1) anything is better than ramflos
2) you need to run at least a 4 or 5 inch high K&N to have no restriction, Vizard talks abit about this in his book...
3) They are a royal pain the ass to remove for cleaning, I need to take the whole manifold off each time so I ditched it in a hurry

The K&N tapered cone shape pancake filters for SU's may have slightly more filter as they are on an angle, who knows, you need to measure one and work it out for yourself. EDIT: Just read Keith's article and yes as I suspected, they are restrictive due to less overall filter area.

Either way I still think they are a pain to remove for cleaning as the screws are on the backplate facinfg the firewall. I understand though that most of you simply don't have any room there to have many choices.

But if I were running twin SU's I'd fit some ramtubes and socks with cable ties. I've seen some run that setup and it looks hot and I bet flows better than a ramflo.

Even if the ram socks are partly squished up agaist the firewall I've found it makes little difference to their performance so long as there is still room for the ramtube to suck in air.

Also K&N are expensive filters. Good but you get what you pay for I suppose

Lastly changing to ramtubes and socks will make your car run lean, I garantee, because it will be breathing heaps better than before

Diss the Ramflos all you like, but-
1. My 1360 made 86.6HP ATW on 2007 dyno day and got the trophy 2 years running. The Ramflo has a Unifilter foam in it.
2. When we dynoed my 1412 stroker at GR's with and without the Ramflo on, it made no difference. We got 114HP with, same without.

In both cases I ran short stubstacks inside the filter.

IMO for a road car a Ramflo beats using socks, which don't really fit in without a Weber box, and look like crap with cable ties on.. :lol:

I've never doubted Ramflo's...well Flow, but I always thought they were hopeless as a filter, is the unifilter element at least a foam composite?

The filter medium in a Ramflo doesn't flow real well, they tend to crumble when they get old.
I use a Unifilter LNX400 polyurethane foam pad instead, oiled with Unifilter oil.
You can see some daylight through them, but it's amazing what they filter out in 5000 miles.
Previously (when available) I used a Finer Filter pad. These are now NLA (since Unifilter bought out the company years ago).

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery- KingDragon and others have made Ramflo pattern filters for the fully sik Japanese market for years.

Some racers run with NO filter, I'm not prepared to do that on the road.
