checked for damage to the sump guard after being pulled over by the police last night and asked to drive up a gutter, causing my sump guard to scrape.

What was that all about???

Ditto, thats a really odd request.

yep wtf, no fine could amount to that, id be telling him where to get off.

as aggrevated as he was, i had no intention of making the situation worse. Judging by the language in which he was speaking to me, i was not about to enflame him more than he was. no damage was made to the sump guard. 8)

If there was damage, further action would have been taken.

thanks for your concern though guys, appreciate it. :)

I would have told that copper to park his attitude in the car. You don't deserve to be treated poorly because he has his period.. I also love getting out of my car when talking to a copper that's pulled me up. they hate looking up at me instead of down their nose :D
Mind you I will treat a copper with respect if they first show some to me. It's a rarity in my roadside dealings so far.

The chambers were bathtubbed years ago, as the 1310S motor was running Mahle flat top pistons on the street.
Finish you see is natural. I just gave the chambers a quick rotary wire brush and degreased them, there was hardly any carbon in there. No point in polishing them again. Valve faces and seats were all shiny and flat (thanks to Flashlube), they didn't even need grinding or refacing. Bronze guides and valve stems are unworn, even though it used 1.5 forged rockers.
4 new Viton seals on the inlets, and she's back together. 8)

[edit] here's a pic of the ports-

My Mini had a test run...and it went 1st time! The first time since I've had it (the only time it's had a complete motor/body).

The test drive is still to come after a few more things. The only problem that came from the test run was a leak in the original fuel pipe/line, which could be a bit of a pain to fix.

Rebuilt the front calipers and removed loads of cruddy lookin brown stuff from behind the pistons, fitted new brake pads, adjusted rear brakes and hand brake, removed all of the original 1/4 vent window that had accumulated on the top and inside of the instrument cluster ( that vibrated like crazy) when it was broken back in 1981 ( according to reciepts), tightened the steering rack bolts, greased all nipples, tried in vain to get the squirties working then took her for a nice drive on curly roads and got my front screen covered in bugs

You took it to a mechanic to adjust the bonnet??!!

Shame on you! In 7 years I've only ever taken Lillee to Grieg Mallure twice, once to weld a box and the other cause I was lazy and didn't want to deflate and reflate the hydro bags.

And I'm geeky IT guy with Star Trek cufflinks...

Don't give me the dirty hands and broken nails sob story, you can't break your nails from adjusting your bonnet! (unless you are a complete girlie girl...)

No but really lol I was dropping in to see him to ask him about changing my suspension boots. So while I was there I mentioned the issue and he adjusted it :D.. I would have looked at it myself but I had only just noticed it while zipping down the freeway.

He has enough brain cells left to perform any sort of mechanical operation?

Ignored him when he played for St George Ill' and don't think he is anything special when it comes to boxing either. Much prefer Danny Green.

Heh.

PS: Mechanics name is Jason ; )

[dons fireproof suit]

Bought another BK450 head gasket. They still come from Payen UK, but no longer have the magic words `Made in England' stamped on them, but packaging is marked `Made by Payen, in Kontich, Belgium'
We'll see how it goes... I was assured by the importer they are no different, and still better than the `asbestos free' copper ones.
