I have had my H4's for well over 25yrs and they have been in at least 6 cars without a problem why do I need a relay?
You must be running very standard globes then. (and you are lucky) Headlights draw too many amps for the standard 30 year old wires to handle. You may also find that if you fit a relay your lights will be a little brighter as well.

I kinda like the dull glow of the original lights myself, a bit nostalgic

Digging up an old thread, but does anyone know where I can get plastic H4s from?

There are a few reasons I want plastic:
a. Lighter than glass
b. I race regularly, and have to cover glass with plastic film
c. Cheaper

Would prefer not to go Angel Eyes as a matter of taste, and the ones sold in the USA are not ADR approved as they have the wrong beam pattern for LH drive cars.

not ADR approved because they are made of plastic too?

Anyway back to the thread I use the curved H4 glass lights from Minisport in SouthAustralia with Phillip globes, good stuff.

Can't imagine why, lots of new cars on the road have plastic lenses... :?:

I can buy ADR Approved Angel Eyes in Oz that are plastic, but they're not really my cup of tea:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-Patrol-Maverick-MQ-GQ-7-LED-Angel-Eye-Headlight-/250688508530?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a5e331272

As Simon said, plastic is used on most new cars lights & is actually safer in the event of an accident.
Race organisers don't like glass because it means cleaning the track before racing can continue.

When I was racing the HQ Holden I used stick on plastic film on my headlights. It is great stuff, I would get a crappy stone chipped headlight and stick the stuff on and the headlights looked brand new.

Available from Supercheap, you just need to cut it to shape.

I use Contact - does the same job, but not UV stabilised.
Still doesn't help the weight issue!

Contact does not protect as good as skins. The only time I broke a headlight was when it really deserved it.

Contact does not look clear on headlights. It always looks like a headlight covered in contact!
With the skins I used to have trouble with scrutineers complaining that my lights were not covered!
