Hi guys,
Octane booster was discussed here a while ago, so I thought I would buy me some. Wynns seems to be the only one I could find that specifically says it will add up to 8 units. I wonder what a unit is ?? Is Wynns any good and how much do folk add to bring 98 up to 100 or thereabouts? I find detail on the bottle lacking and there is nothing much on the website either.

Regards
Al

I can't imagine you will find any noticeable difference from a 98 premium though.

Japans high octane is 100 RON
Watch out as some may be measured in AKI rather than RON

Hmmm, interesting read. I have 20L of Toluol at home, it looks like that will improve octane as much as anything will. If I also add some lead substitute, I'll be hot to trot on an upcoming track day.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that 1 unit was 0.1 of a RON rating. So if you had 98 octane to start with you will end up with a maximum of 98.8 octane if you use the whole bottle (depending on how large the amount of fuel is).

I usually do run racing fuel on the track but some tracks are banning it because of lead, Avgas is OK at home but we're going out to Palmerston North for the Mini Nationals and it might not be easy to get there. Too far to take it too, safely.

Naughty Maxxy, don't tell folks to do this, AVGAS is not the be-all-end-all for A-series minis, see my talks from Viz as to why (mostly burn rate & altitude compensation)...

cheers

Jacob

I ran a bottle of NOS brand booster with BP Ultimate years ago at Wakefield Pk. C/R was 10.7:1.
The car went better on the way home when I filled the tank back up to the brim with straight Ultimate (98 RON).
Octane Booster is snake oil, IMO.

So how many snakes are in each unit of octane? :D

Toluol will increase the octane as long as the petrol is not already overloaded with Toluol. You may run into diminishing returns.
Toluol is also known as methylbenzene, phenylmethane, toluene, methacide, methylbenzol, tolu-sol, etc.

Years ago Ampol gave me this with a drum of Toluene/Toluol...
