hey gang,
my has been painted for over a month now and i think its safe enough for me to assume the paints dry (all 9 coats of it), so im now at the cut and polish stage. Ive never done this before so i was wondering whats involved and would i be able to do it myself if i borrow the big angle grinder and the sheeps wool covered polishing thing from work. Has anyone else had any experinece doing this that has some ponters for me??

What colour is it? type of paint? (metallic) If your paint is only new (under 12 months) then just hit it with meguairs yellow wax by hand. You will not need to cut it. If there are a few scratches on it use a bit of meguairs medium (cleaner/polish). If the paint feels rough (like gritty) then hit it with a clay bar (3m make a good one) use really soapy water with it. If you think it really needs a buff, then use the meguairs medium with a soft pad.

just go easy with the buffing pads. Can leave nasty swirl marks and no one wants that on your new beaut paint job...

You're only supposed to blow WHAT off?

My suggestion is not to use an angle grinder either, they are way too fast for buffing and polishing. you would need a proper sander polisher which has a slow speed on it, otherwise you'll cut right through the paint. Also is the paint 2pac or acrylic? and if acrylic is it metallic with a clear coat or solid?
If you don't have a polisher then just do it by hand. And even if you do, do flat surfaces with the polisher and edges by hand so you don't cut through the edges cause they are always thinner. New 2pac paint shouldn't really need to be cut or polished at all if applied well. Generally only acrylic does(mainly solid to bring up the shine). What do other people think? If i'm wrong i'd be greatful for people to correct me.

thanks for tips everyone, ive learnt so much from this forum. My paint job is a blue/purple/black flip, mettalic acrylic paint, but the actual metallic coats are underneath 7 clear coats and under 9 on the roof so i think they are failry protected.
