The story of the second cam......

I was putting it in the bin (coz its stuffed) and my son saw me and gave me the "whats that?"...."what does it do?".....

So I told him and he said "can I have it?"......so I said yea.

So he put it in the tray on the back of his push car, and said "this is my zorst pipe....smelly smoke comes out of there"

I kid you not!

Anyway...I digress......my '998' (so it says onthe block - ) will be rather tasty I think  Can't wait to hear it! should rumble a little louder than Pops....

Reading about the pistons and what not, i decided to give it a look as i had to take the head off anyway to put the little tube between it and the water pump *smacks head*
and i came across some wierd numbers and a made in germany stamp, are these still normal size pistons? and are they meant to go really deep? on a 1275.

Picture ~down there~

Let me know if ya cant read the numbers.

30 thou oversize I'd say.

The 0.030" means their 30 thou oversize. I guess the 71.31 may be a mm size for the actual diameter of the piston. Sizes are typically plus 20 thou, 40 thou, 60 thou for a mini so it is an odd size. The rest has me stumped except for the fact Made in Germany probably means that's where they were made  :D

1310/71,
You used to be able to get .010", .020", .030" .040" O/S pistons stock from BMC once.
But aftermarket suppliers have distilled this to .020", .040" & .060"

.030" used to be a common size once, in `66 I had a 997 block with .030" over Repco pistons and a 1098 crank in it.
Pistons stuck up 1mm or so, we decked them with a file... :P
Hey we were learning as we went!

The markings are .030" 71.31 and sp0,06 on the top, and on the bottom i think it is a little obvious, whats the thing that is 506 but has the _'s on top of the | | | 's
