Do you need to put a boss kit on when replacing the steering wheel or can you just bolt another steering wheel on? Whats the go with different types of steering wheels and is there only some types that will fit a mini? Any help you be appreciated.

Enquire about boss kits when you are buying a wheel. There are various bolt patterns for different wheels onto the hub, eg a Motolita is a different PCD to all the others.
Usually you need a boss that is made for the wheel. However there is an Autotechnica boss kit that suits a few different wheel brands, it has multiple holes.

So if I buy a wheel with a boss kit on will that just fit straight onto the mini? Or is there more to it than that? Are there any steering wheels that don't require a boss in order to go straight onto the mini?

nope, i don't believe so. Had a look at boss's a while back & there seems to be an enormous amount of different types of splines.

Something i didn't consider when purchasing mine  ....now i intend on drilling new holes in the wheel to match a mini suitable boss, if only i had thought

No. None. Every aftermarket wheel will need a boss kit to suit the wheel and the vehicle you are fitting the wheel to. If you want to fit a momo wheel, you will need a boss kit to suit a momo wheel AND to fit a classic mini - momo or autotechnica will do the job. If you want to use a Moto Lita, then you need a Moto Lita boss - same for Moutney. Get onto UK ebay (Classic Car Parts - Mini Wheels) and pick up a good 2nd hand wheel WITH a boss kit already fitted to the wheel. The boss will fit both classic mini and clubman. Do NOT buy a wheel without a boss kit, and try to get a sensible size wheel. I would suggest at least 13" or a 14". Depending on your body shape, you may also require a wheel with dish, which will bring the wheel closer to you, so you won't need to do the usual mini driver "orang-utan" impersonation. Good luck.

hmmm, dish,

hadn't thought of that to solve my orangutan impression....

i thought my legs weren't in proportion to my arms in relation to Sir Alec's idea of a person!

i've got a dished wheel on a morris 1000 column in the shed. can anyone tell me if if the splines are the same?
