Hey guys

I'm the proud owner of my second little car. A 67 deluxe (which i promise i will put pictures up when i get to it). The girl is original and i want to keep it that way.

Quick question, i hope. I have done a general check on her, changed points and plugs. Runs great and starts every time. Issue is that there is a small oil leak coming from the back, could be from the tappet covers. Very small, one drop or so and she blows a little smoke. A tinge of white. Now, eventually i want to take the engine out and rebuild but i would love to get her registered so i can drive her around to a mechanic to get the work done.

With these slight issue's what are my chances on passing blue slip in NSW?

Thanks

Most places will pass it on oil leaks as long as it doesn't drop any oil on their workshop floor while they are doing their inspection. I'd say you'd be sweat as it's not a car that draws un-necessary attention, like a V8 ute with a juke box in it.

Dont go to a non-mini mechanic....

Mini mechanic = "I know these old girls and boys leak oil, you're taking care of the car... PASS"

Non mini mechanic = "I am going to totally f__k your engine up trying to stop an oil leak that is going to exist no matter what just to make you come back time and time again because your car is all of a sudden not working well"

GO... TO.... Mini.... mechanic.

if nothing less they might be able to fix your leak better than any non mechaic will

i can not agree more strongly with the mini mechanic statement...

first car bought unregistered and took it just to a normal mechanic and had to go back another 2 times before it passed

second car bought it from victoria (needed blue slip) went to mini mechanic and passed straight away, rebuild her she got unregistered again sent it to a mini mechanic and passed blue slip straight away again

GO TO A MINI MECHANIC!!!

Ps I wasn't saying mini mechanics were any easier etc etc..... They just know what to fix to make sure you are back on the road without much stuffing around

Actually my experience has been the opposite. The non-mini mechanic doesn't know what to specifically look at or where to look, so if they don't know what they are looking at, easy.

Just make sure they don't try to jack up the front end by putting the jack under the floor  I have probably told our local (moron) guy close on 20 times now and many many times every year, but he still goes to do it.
