Hey i heard a while back that there are nearly 3 times as many cooper s mini's registered in australia than actually were ever made.
does anyone know how true this is.
i wonder what the actual figure is, it sure would be interesting to know...i wonder where all the badges are coming from. :P

Don't quote me but I think it's something like 8000 real cooper S's ever made of the round nose type. I am sure legends like Brian Foley crashed or destroyed at least 50 of those in their racing careers, and at least a few thousand went to the scrap yard, leaving only lets say 5-6000 real S's left!

As far as I am concerned, if you haven't got the paper work then it aint a real S!

Besides, S's are overated, soon Lillee will be twice the power of the original S's  Long live the Deluxe and Mini K!!!

Doesn't the saying go: "Out of the 8000 S's ever made only 15000 still remain?"

well so far we've accounted for about 4 of them. i wonder how many ausmini members have them.
What do you think is the best mini to start with (other than a cooper s :? obviously) to make myself a replica. I'm thinking the mini K as it had same guages, other than the 120mph speedo.
ANyone made themselves one from something, love to know about it.

my daughters Cooper S is real enough in that the body is a real Cooper S , it wont end up with a genuine Cooper S motor though just an 1100S (1275)..
my K shell has been semi cooperised, someone cut a hole for a rhs tank filler... however I intend to get it welded back up. its a K and i would rather it stayed that way in this case. I dont see any harm in S replicas but they are just to freakin expensive if you actually intend to use an S tank and guages etc... I have seen fake fillers, and in my opinion thats crap... but for someone else its probably fine.
probably the hardest mini to Cooperise is the clubby (for obvious cosmetic reasons)
a lot of people say the cooper S is overated, and i think they are right to a degree, but the racing herritage , which spills over into domestic sales of the mini ,is on the back of the early Cooper S rigs.. they are probably more overrated by non enthusiasts who have limited knowledge of minis in general...
