Hey Chop, what lens are you using?
I've recently bought myself a D90 and am daily getting my head around new things.

I'd love to know how the whole sponsorship thing works.

I'm crap at sales so I would just kind of wander in and say:
"Hey I want to go racing all the time and not have a 9-5 job like yours. How about you pour your money into me having fun and in return I'll slap a few stickers on and talk to your employees about being motivated. Oh and you can booze up at the corporate tent and act like you are important. How about it? Got a lazy 50k?"

There is obviously a knack to extracing money from people so you can go and enjoy yourself and possbily end up getting paid hansomly. As said before, that has got the be a more important skill than actually driving well. I'm sure busting your arse working for your dream inspires them to want to help.

Back to one-make series, anyone remember the Swift GTi series in rallying in the 90's? Story goes the batch of cars got waterlogged on the docks in Japan and nobody was going to say anything but a whistle blower let out the story so the cars were worthless. Bingo, one-make rally class. Problem solved and a good dead done. Lots of guys got their chance in that series.

M

great pics mate was good to meet you out there, i always like putting faces to names!

on the sponsorship front..

motorsport is worth money because your basically putting a sign on prime time tv, which is worth alot of money... (i think i got 300,000 dollars worth of tv exposure this year) for a small ad on primetime tv you would pay quadrupil what your paying a driver or team for the space.. and you mentioned it seems odd that im getting someone elses money to go and have fun.. well running at the front in a proper national category isnt really being paid to have fun.. its high pressure, high intensity and your on the limit of your ability (especially for me going upwards, where as your paul stokells and glenn setons would do it more for the fun, not that they dont push or feel the pressure, which is why i ended up in the tyres) not that i dont enjoy motor racing, but its not like a hillclimb when you go and race in these things, theres alot of money and alot of people time and effort on my shoulders when i jump in the seat.. what we do is a business just as much as its a sport

ps, we all have 9-5 jobs, i have two now.. and the guys that are full proffessional are literally that, they work hard, they train flat out you dont just turn up and drive and go home...

i have a magazine that said what to look for to make sure it hadnt been raced lol.

I think it was about 2 weeks ago.

The pics on page 3 of this thread were taken there.
