I had a VK Regal then a CL manual steer.. it handled better. Regal power steer had no road feel whatsoever. So, you steered it on the throttle.8)

Back then you paid nothin' for `em, spent nothin' on 'em, and when you sold 'em you got nothin' back!!!

Trust me, they still have no feel whatsoever! I thought mine was broken, but apparently it's par for the course.

Cost me $70, and there was $7.60 in the ashtray. We've almost got it registered now and have spent about another $70.

Check the RH chassis rail isn't cracked/rusted/broken at the steering box. very common problem with these... but can be plated and welded.

I bought my first Cooper S in '68 and immediately started modifying i to make it go harder.
A Mk2 S followed a few years later and that got the treatment too. Things I probably wouldn't dream of doing to one now.

40 years on I'm still building Minis, albeit at a much slower pace as a Mini isn't my everyday car these days. I've always liked the A series for its simplicity and potential. And the sound is unmatched by any modern hatch...

Its amazing how much power people can screw out of the humble A series with just internal mods let alone carb and exhaust combinations.

My mini is 60's basic transport car, thats how it was made and thats how it can stay. There seems to be very few that have remained in that condition. I'm always on the look out for period accessories.

It keeps up fine in city traffic (one traffic light to the next), and is not a car to take on any kind of long journey. It's a city car, made for city uses.

If I want to go fast or a long way or in supreme comfort I get into one of my big cars and hit the motorways or country roads.

I think there has always been the lovers of the "pure" mini concept and the lovers of the modified hot rods. Nothings changed.
