Looks like a Cooper S.

The truck is a Thornycroft Mighty ANTAR, they were a huge powerful truck that were imported for use in the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
The early models had a V8 "Meteorite" engine which was a cut down RR Meteor V12 which was the normally aspirated version of the RR Merlin.
The Metrorite was made by Rover.
Later models used a RR diesel.

that's a good picture - shows the driving lights on the cop car, dad's S appears to be a cop car and has holes in the top of the overriders like that

I'm guessing the GMG got feedback from drivers that the over-rider was not a good spot to fit a driving light as it would vibrate. On the MK II S they were fitted to the panel behind the bumper a little closer together and had a chunky bracing washer to steady them.

When I joined the NSW Police Force in 1973 and was transferred to the STP(HWP) in 74 we had Yellow Cubby vans for wide load escorts. I'll check with a few mates to see if they have any photos and will send them to you if sucessful. Can remember one occasion turning for Old Canterbury Rd into Canterbury Rd at Hurlstone Park and changing from 3rd to 2nd and the gear stick parted company from the floor. Not good when you have a semi with a wide load bearing down on you. Anyway, I'll see what I can come up with.
