 that would be called 'helping someone'.....

crap, if someone comes on and asks for Cooper S info, I am going to tell them to use search and I will give them the search criteria I used, as it got the best info for me only recently......

I am saying nothing more on this topic..... :?

I think it would help if the mods etc when scrolling around could move posts if they are obviously in the wrong place....not the ones that ramble into other areas inadvertantly....just For Sale in Mini Chat etc.

I also think newbies signing up should first be pointed to and be encouraged to introduce themselves immediately......then free to post elsewhere after first post there.

Location field in profile should maybe have drop boxes for places and postcodes!!! It is soooooooo frustrating sometimes trying to help someone when you don't know where they are!!! (hmmmm....he was shearing when I knew him...so I took the letter to him..  )

you have accurately described every web forum i've ever been a member of. well, almost - you usually do get what you need buried in with the banter. and both are what keeps me coming back for more.

Hahahahahah jinx nermil 8)

You can never please everyone

It's like being in live chat and 'some' folks whinging cause we weren't talking about mini's but isn't that what this section is for :? If we all sticked to the one subject the forum would be pretty darn dull..

Trying to put an end to the 266 members who have never posted once?

i have a theory behind that. when i first tried to sign up for ausmini, i never got the email to confirm my membership off memory. i'd put all my details in correct and everything. so i had to do it again, with a new username/email - and it worked that time. i dare say a few other people may have had similar experiences. i've had it happen on another phpBB system as well.

That's happened to me.
I never got the confirmation email for my harley.net, now I'll need a new address.

Would it be worth deleting these members, and have them sign up again when they want to post?

I have got a theroy about that as well..... Notice how this is assumed that any fault could never be at your end?

Guess What! - The fault was at your end! Humans are faulty, the machine only does what it's told

It is almost quaranteed that the email went off dutifully to whatever email address you registered with. It is amaizing how often these humanoid life forms can't hit the correct keys on their keyboard while at the same time being incapable of admitting that they are not perfect.

As to the n00bs...

There is a set of generally acepted conventions for internet behaviour on forums called nettiquate. One expectation being that someone new to a community has a pretty good look round and figure out what is "normal" for this place before posting. Another is to try and help yourself before expecting to be spoon fed.

It all comes down to the way the question is asked, but n00b or not,the question presented as "I have looked but can't locate" usually gets a positive responce, but a "can''t be bothered looking, just tell me" request is not.

WhoDat, it may not always be the humans fault.

Spam filters exist on pretty much any mail server today. Ausmini signup response probably looks a bit spamish to most bayesian spam filters.

Email is cetainly not a reliable form of communication these days.

i had written out a large reply to this, stating all the ways in which it wasn't human error, but then scrapped it and decided not to post it. your reply is somewhat rude, and ignores what i had been trying to say. if you're the person who coded the phpBB software and can categorically say that at no time does it ever stuff up and not send the confirmation email, then i apologise.

i also see that someone else mentioned spam filters, which is another possibility, though not in my case, as the email service i used does not have spam filtration options available to free users.
