Im thinking of putting a flipfront on my mini. The front panels have rust which is not worth fixing. As far as i can gather you need to cut away both the inner wings about 30cm back to make room for the brace bars. Where could one move the brake booster in order to do this. Or should a bracket be made to accomodate it instead.

Cheers,
Dennis

Firstly check with the transport depo if you can legally do it. I'd guess you will need to get it engineered as well.
IMO
The brace bars can be made to follow the original contour of the inner panels and the boosted can be mounted onto one no worries, same with the wiring loom.
Where will your horn go?
Where are your fuses?
How will the hinge set up work?
Will it be removable (if so you'll need to re-think hinges and wiring)?
Will it be one piece or will the bonnet still open like normal?
Their are a LOT of little things you will need to think about and sort out and they have to comply with the laws aswell.

I've been thinking of doing this as well...again not sure of the legal requirements!

Wiring loom shouldn't be a pain. Just deciding on hinge or removable?

I'll be following this thread and if I do kick it off the ground I'll post along the way.

Cool. Yeah Ive heard different things about the legality. Some people say because the ADRs came in 1st of Jan, 1969 all cars before are fine. Others say you will need a engineering certificate. Ill have to find this out. Ive had another look and i might just need a new front apron and one wing, so maybe ill stick with the original setup. Keep us up to date though.
