Have only had my Mini a couple of weeks, and was just wondering if this is the norm? It has a 1275 motor, and a webber single carb. Every time I start it, I get quite allot of black smoke, and it runs like poop. It sounds like it's running on three cylinders. It does this all the way up to running temp, (about 5 minutes) then runs like an absolute dream, and no smoke.

Do others cars do the same?

Thanks in advance. :D

are you using the choke to start it cold?

If it is running on 3 cylinders at start up, it sounds like the plugs are getting fouled. It probably needs a proper tune (jetting and timing), but try cleaning the plugs using the drmini blowtorch method and try again.

black smoke usually indicated too rich a mixture, which is easy to do if you are using the choke and the mixture is already at the rich end of the scale.

cheers

Most people with sidedraft Webers (me included with 45 Dellorto) don't bother with the choke- just pump the throttle a few times then turn the key.
If I use the choke and leave it on for long, I can foul a plug too.

I have been using the choke, on full too, as that was what I was told to do by the previous owner. Will try it tomorrow with no choke.

Thanks heaps guys. :D

I only used the choke when it was less than 5*C over in NL and only until the temp got to about 40*C on the guage.

cheers
