This happens all the time. And all the time, it is the humans getting upset not the machines. The machines are dumb ass critters with no brains that just do what they are programed to do. You say
[email protected] and that is where the message is going to be sent instead of
[email protected]. They don't just make up a random address to send it somewhere else to piss you off, or not send it at all because they don't think your are worthy. They just do what they are programmed to do.
Action - reaction, plain and simple.
There are circumstances where the ausmini forum server may fail to process and send agreed, but those are rare, the server would need to be seriously compromised, in a frozen state or even off line. Far more likely to be an email sent off to a "not absolutaly dead accurate" address as a result of a typo.
What happens after the email leaves the ausmini server is quite out of the control of Ausmini - so don't even attempt to blame the originating technology for any mail processing functions a mail account provider or the end client may or may not have on board. LOL
Thanks for proving my point exactly - humans these days are incapable of admitting that it is at all remotely possiblle that any failing whatsoever could have in the remotest possibility emminated from themselves.

I hear what your saying - - You tried to register and didn't get the confirm, that was anoying, frustrating even. You believe that you conformed to all requirements and followed the instructions to the letter so there is no obbious explination to why this thing did not send you the confirm letter. All I am doing is pointing out that there is in fact a plausable and realistic explination. A mistake was made.
Why can no-one admit that mistakes are possible in themselves but are only made by others? never by themselves? - Sh!t I **** all the time! Just check out my spelling if you don't believe me.

well, yeah, it has seemed a bit rude. i'm a computer systems operator. i know full well when, how, and why these things happen. and i run my own site, domain, and phpBB forum. hence, when i say "ive noticed something" and say "i think that maybe ...", i tend to have a slight idea about what's going on. to have someone come along and say "hey, it's just you. you're an idiot who can't type, and you want to blame the machine/can't admit you're wrong etc" - that's the frustrating bit. sure, it may well be the case in some instances. even my instance. but considering i've had the exact same thing happen before, when i know categorically that the address was correct (as in, i copied and pasted it in to another email at the same time and sent a test message - which was received!), there has to be some scope for there being a possible bug in the software, or the install. it can happen - not all software is perfect. especially so for free software.
also, i wasn't trying to blame ausmini for anything. nor did i imply that the spam filtration systems on an email service were in any way under the control of ausmini or phpBB software. that was just another explanation put forward as to why someone may not receive their confirmation email.
the notion of "the user is always wrong" is a common Helldesk theory. and yes, 90% of the time, it is a case of PEBKAC. but the other 10% of the time, the poor user has done nothing wrong, still has a problem, and has had no help from the helpdesk, because they won't look in to it any further.
anyway - this is turning in to a bitch about work, so i will shush now.
