I was kinda meaning down low, so you can see how the bonnet curve will come into play....

Like I said in the pictures above, the bonnet closes . Would be better with webers not dellortos in a roundie due to the height of the centre of the carb. There are some small filters available these days or you could make up a chamber with remote filter , or fit EFI from something. I think it would fit in a roundie. This one is going in my clubbie van though. No probs there!

Getting close. Head is on, sorting out the whole set up. I have ordered some rocker pedistal spacers to correct the rocker alignment. We had to sink the valves in the seats to get the correct valve spring rates so I can use 1.5 rr rockers. As a result the rocker alignment is out , but can be corrected.
Sorted out carb linkage and accelerator cable brackets. Relocated coil. Struck a problem using twin Dellortos as the pump mechanism moves down and hits spark plug leads , so have ordered some GR right angle leads through Minisplus. This should sort it.
Next is rigging up my thermo fan setup to a new alloy rad. The thermo switch fits in bottom , same thread! Just need to sort out the A+ rad cowling to fit.
Wont be too long , then see if it will run enough to get it to the dyno. Will try to post some pics tommorrow.
Anyone else?
I saw a 7 port set up on ebay.au , nont sure if the bloke got it going or not?

Mine is still in the box it arrived in. I've had/got a list of house projects as long as your arm to get through before I can start building the engine.
(front fence, side fence, laundry, shed bathroom, plants, study wall sheeting, paving, water tank overflow, dump runs, shed clean-out blah blah)

I did get a supercharger the other day though. Sold the M45 Eaton kit from my MX5 so I was charger-less. I wanted a Sprintes S5-150 but they're $2050 and a little too big for a 1300cc like the M45. Not enough efficiency at low revs. The one I got is marginal but I'm after torque, not high revs power. It was cheap so I'll give it a go and upgrade later if required.

One question:

If you sink the valves back in the head you have reduced the amount of maximum valve lift (gap between valve head and the chamber) that the gasses can run through. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of putting high ratio rockers in? I'd love to see a comparison between an un-modified head and the modified ones on a flow bench.

I know people say not to machine the spring seat area but has anyone measured the thickness here to decide if it really can/can't be machined?

M

I emailed MED in UK about machining under the spring seat and they advised against it on this head. Everything done to this head is a compromise because not many people have worked on them or modified them. I had the head flow benched before and after porting with good results without breaking into water or oil chambers.
The supllied dbl vlv springs are not real flash and coil bind needs to be checked with your cam and rocker choice.

In relation to sinking the valves , we did this so a quality dbl valve spring could be used and my roller rockers. Spent enough already. Ultimately , after sinking the valves , you would then grind chamber to suit then skim head for desired CR.

Sorted out alloy Rad/thermo fan and A+ cowling today, put on Right angle leads from Minisplus - these are awesome! Will install Rocker pedistal spacers tommorrow and maybe kick it over!

What Radiator cap are people using with these Chinese Alloy Rads?

BIg sorry and thankyou to Graham in Aus who came round this arvo to help fire up the 7 port! We got stuck on a leaking water pump - new gasket tomorrow and some better goo (permatex?) might see it not drip water!

Cant beleive the water pump stoped us - I must have upset the Mini Gods!

Thanks again Graham.

Crossflow is running! Had some carb pump issues now sorted. Sounds awesome, idles well. Test drove and jetting is all wrong under load so will hopefully get it to the Dyno next week. This has been a long haul but hopefully now on top of things. Had a leak from front and back of block between head gasket and block due to the water way set up of this head. Swapped head gaskets, torqued up in 4 steps. Better but still a drip at back of block which was fixed with heat when the eng warmed up. Used a bk450 hg.On test drive it felt it had heaps of torque right from idle, but tuning wise it is early days! It runs, I am more positive today than the end of last week I tell you!

Well done Leigh! Bit better than the other nights debacles!

These heads are probably not a simple 'bolt on' but with a bit of work the potential is good!

Heard the thing (down the phone) yesterday. Man it sounds awesome!

1 sidedraft sounds good, two is pure music!

Ok , so had the 7 port on the rolling road dyno today.

5 port head A+ 1360, 266 cam , 1.5 rrr, LCB , 45mm weber, standard 5 port head made 60hp atw @ 5750rpm, 3rd gear 110 kph.

Ported 7 port Pierce head Same dyno, same set up with twin 40mm dellortos. 10.5 cr. 3.1 diff.

90.4 hp atw @ 5870, 3rd gear ,118kph.

Still a bug to iron out around 3000 - 3500 rpm.

Needs : new exhaust - perry lcb has seen better days and is cracked! I noticed this the night before the dyno session , so disconected battery + and - , welded up the cracks and sorted the lower bracket and fried the alternator in the process. My advice - unplug your alt when welding!
Megajolt lite or a different dizzy - the A+ ducellier was not made for this application.

Pretty happy so far with a bit more to come , need to sort out the miss in middle revs to make it more driveable , probably a combination of advance curve/jetting.
Anyone else got thiers going?
