You just need to sort the hydro out with firm front shocks, and competition rear bump stops, as well as correct geometry. Hydro can be made to be a lot firmer than popular belief.

Having been in both, I have to honestly say, if it's wet, keep it wet, if it's dry, keep it dry. No point in conversions. Waste of time and money that can be spent on improvements.

"fast road car": DrMini runs a ~130bhp on hydro and it handles like a cat on carpet. I'd take Lillee onto the track tomorrow and give some dry cars a good thrashing I'm sure...

Wow so many hydro lovers on here....

I just converted my hydro car to dry suspension. Handles a hell of a lot better, ride quality is great. No regrets at all.

For the record, I swapped the subframes entirely - it was far easier, and my hydro frames were pretty shot anyway.

I've got both hydro and dry cars and the only reason to change from wet to dry that I can think of is to restore a car to original, ie if it has been a dry car converted in the past to a wet car.

Hydro in my opinion is far far superior to dry for all but a track car. Comfort, and handling (road) is much better on hydro.

Steve

Dare I say Anto that your Hydro must have been in shocking state?

It needed some new bushes but was definitely not in a shocking state. Nothing on my car is in a shocking state.

It's all about preference. I drove a hydro Cooper S the other day, the hydrolastic was in perfect condition but I still prefer my dry suspension. I also prefer rod change gearboxes to remote change.

lol but despite my desire for rod change gearboxes, I do in fact have a soft spot for magic wand gearboxes. Make of that as you will
