Hi all,

I was looking at adjustable suspension, and it looks like there's four choices. There's the amazingly cheap adjusta-rides, the cheap hilos, the ripspeed hilos and the miniman's "best hilos in the world."

Now, a few questions. For general road use, is there much difference between all these? I understand the miniman sells soft, medium and hard profiles; what profile are the others?

I'm after these mainly to raise the mini - I live in a rural area and I have knocked my muffler off in my own driveway more than once.

Now, cones. I was thinking of getting some old rear cones from a wreckers since the rears don't sag as quickly, will this work? I've seen cheap cones in the UK but have been warned against these. If I were to buy them, what should I look for?

Rear rubber cones from an old wreck can be almost new.
I took some from a moke rear end on Tuesday.

You can see my hilos are solid billet and have "square" shoulders.
These are great for racing, but for country roads I'd recommend getting MadMatt's soft profile, which are radiised similar to the original trumpets. This gives a more progressive spring rate.

The only problem I've encountered with cheaper hilos is they often sit too high - especially with new cones. Doesn't sound like that will be a problem for you though

I put two sets of rear cones in my car, worked a treat. The rear cones I used were only a few mm shorter than new ones, vs the old front cones that were about 25mm shorter

Go the miniman "soft" ones with a set of good rear cones as already suggested.

This will give you a nice compliant ride without too much body roll.
