Maybe a dumb question, but what is a Mk.2 gearbox worth?

A. Shagged?
B. Re-built?

Just asking as I am thinking of re-building mine despite the fact that I don't need it. It just came with the original car and I am loathe to part with the bits.

Not in Vic!
You get better ratios with a 3syc box and there stronger than a 4syc box.
As for the brakes, I dont reckon you can go past a set of S discs! :D

Quote from the CAMS manual, for Nb cars....

The original type of gearbox as supplied by the manufacturer for the make and model concerned,
assembled and operating as originally supplied by the manufacturer, shall be retained. The number of forward
and reverse gear ratios may not be changed, however the use of alternate gear ratios is permitted.

Here in little SA we can run the four speed box as far as I knew it was a national change ...
Happened around three years ago, was brought in because of the availability of parts
But as you said better ratios for the three speed box ...

Hi Dave
Check with your local eligibility officer
There is a bulletin covering these variations
The rules are the same for all states
The Minispares "Clubman" 4 synchro S/C gear set has almost identical ratios to the 3 synchro and 1st gear is much stronger

See CAMS link above - lists 4 sychro for Nb..... and adjustable front controls arms....
and a weber box (of specific dimensions... )
as 8 sept 2009 (but long time before they put up on the web)

Makes my spare 333 case "redundant" now....
Was getting very difficult to find first gear parts and bearings.....

I'll give 'ya 50 bucks for it - I need one for dad's MK1 - it pre-dates the 1288 case :D
