I had to use this to fix Hetty. See under piccy for description.........
Everything was going great with Hetty yesterday until I had to go down to the post office to pick up a recent Ebay purchase. Car started beautifully and I let her warm up for a minute or so while I cleared the cats from the driveway.
Heading off down the road there was a bit of smoke coming out of the rear car but as I had just washed her I put it down to some water getting into the exhaust. A few corners later I was at the lights and the car was idling really rough on about 400rpm. Acceleration was fine although still smokey, eventually I got to the shops and pulled into a car bay just as she stalled, without the movement of the car I got a HUGE whiff of fuel.
I popped the bonnet to see petrol pouring out of the charcoal canister and knew instantly the needle in the fuel bowl wasn't sealing and I had just taken all the tools out of the car to work on my falcon engine (yay something else to rebuild), so no screwdrivers. Hunting through the boot I found my Falcon's broken oil dipstick which I had been using to check the fuel level in the Mini's tank (testing to see how accurate the fuel gauge is).
After about 15 minutes I had the floatbowl apart and the crap cleaned out by sucking air back through the inlet pipe and boy did that taste good Then I put it all back together. Of course with all that fuel she was well and truely flooded but thankfully for the truck battery in the back I had enough cranking power to block the fuel supply and crank the motor over until she fired. Then it was off to Malz for a new filter and strangely enough, no smoke anymore...
Apart from it being STINKING hot in the sun and the rather loud vocalisation of the swear words going through my head when I found that I didn't have any screwdrivers with me, everything turned out ok..
