Hi Doug You may remember we had a few msgs back and forth on this car last year mate. When you say SPO41 doesn't apply to these early MK II cars, does that mean they didn't use them as police cars or that they didn't have aformal specification ?

Oops, yes, sorry about that. Didn't check your username first.

The SPO's that applied to the Mark 1 Cooper S and early MK II S's used by NSW Police prior to SPO41 (i.e. up to chassis 2371) are:
SPO16 - lowered seats (also used on station and escort Minis and Vans)
SPO25 - reversing lights (toggle switch on gear lever)
SPO26 - Ferodo DP11 racing disk brake pads

How complete are they?
I'm in need of a rear subby

Adam,
As I posted on the Moke forum last week I have a good dry rear subby you can have, for nix.
It's pretty bare but I think I have 2 dry arms here too.

I also have a 68 Moke front subby with the top arms and rubber cones in, yours too if you want it.
It was slightly modified by a Qld peanut farmer to get the rack out, but could be rewelded there easily.
I need the room....

Early cars used SPO16, just the lowered seats.

My car is YG 2S4 120X so I have always assumed it is an early one. I checked today and found the wiper motor is dated 11-70 though this may have been replaced, the heater fan (MKII S) is marked 5/69
Can anyone give me an approximate date on this using the body no.

I would say late 69.

Does the car have a compliance plate? (or rivet holes from a compliance plate?)

They didn't fit compliance plates till 70.

Watto is the maintainer of the Australian Cooper S register. PM him with your car details.

If we know that roughly one in seven Cooper 'S's were used by the Police, I am wondering why we are rarely seeing SPO16 - Lowered seats?

seats are prob the easiest thing on a car to change, maybe all the old skool bargearse cops wore them out
