What about the bearing/hub centre?
Wouldn't it poke out a mile with many wheels?

This is the same bearing and hub combo on my trailer with steel rims.

A mag wheels will come out another 3/4 of an inch and then with a center cap it should just cover i reckon.

Nice work Dave. Any chance of you making a kit for those of us who are more mechanically challenged to buy?

sorry but all "mini mods" are not being done anymore. I am just concerntrating on building my car.
At various times I will be building parts for my car like coil over susp, brakes etc, and when I have the machines tooled up I may let people know so I can run off a few more for them.

At this stage I am just building up my 998 crank 1275 engine and the only bits that I will have for that is the aluminium flywheel and big clutch.

I can give you the details on how to do the various mods.

Do they handyvan rotors stud pattern match the mini wheels or is machining involved there?

I'll have a go at this,
Machining is needed. Have another look at the original posts but basically you get a;
-Ford stub axle drilled to suit a mini stud pattern.
-Machine the stub axle down to press fit inside the mini rear sway arm, same as the mini stub axle fits in.
-The handyvan rotor has studs in it already so the back of the Ford hub is drilled/machined to accept that pattern aswell.
-Then the caliper mount needs to be machined and fitted to the 3 bolt holes on the mini sway arm that the brake backing plate would normally bolt to.

The stub axle, ford or holden bearings and hub face can be brought off the shelf at any trailer or axle shop BUT you should get them to specially order in a set that has been drilled to the mini stud pattern (101mm I think).
The Handyvan rotor should be able to be brought new from any car parts store or even 2nd hand from a wreckers (but why bother with 2nd hand brakes?)
The calliper and handbrake cables from the NT Magna would best be sourced from a wreckers or a brake specialist and rebuilt for peace of mind and safety.
Now you need a machinist or engineer shop to make it all fit together and to create the caliper bracket.
Then some hands on work from yourself will get the whole lot assembled and on the car.
Obviously their is a bit more work in it than that but it's all their in the previous posts and pictures.

I will try to make this a bit clearer.
This alloy bracket is std on the magna, but it is a full circular bracket and I cut off asection to shift it in closer to the disc. The section left has holes drilled in it to take cap head bolts into the adaptor bracket.
Image
the hubs are a standard trailer hub with holden wheel brgs. The hub is 4 stud 4"PCD. They come with 7/16" studs so just replace with mini ones.
The disc rotor mounting holes are drilled thru the hub flange and the rotor is bolted to the back of the hub[this will need a skim to make sure it's flat and running true.
Image
The stub axles are a standard trailer short axle that is machined to press into the mini arm. I normally machine the entire hub to get a bit of weight off .
The calipers fit into the alloy bracket as per standard magna .
Image
This pics shows the adaptor plate. It's made from 6mm thick steel and fits to the original 3 holes in the arm and is drilled/tapped to take the alloy bracket mounting blots
Image
You do need some machining done and acurate drilling/tapping of the holes. The rotors are std 7" handivan front rotors. new about $55

David, just a quick question for what seems like a relatively easy (and less expensive) rear disc conversion.

In your first post you mention that the magna sedan had a 30mm piston while the wagon had a 35mm piston. Which would you recommend? I would think that the wagon's 35mm piston would be easier to fine tune with the bias control as the same amount of fluid would produce less clamping pressure on the larger dia piston?

Thanks.

I have only used the rear calipers off the sedans. There seems to be a lot more of them compared to the wagons.
As for the bias it's a case of playing around with the spring tension or just convert the std one to adjustable, or you can get a inline adjustable one and ditch the std mini one.

Thanks for that David. Your explanation is great so I will be giving this a go.

Hi David,
I am also very interested in giving this a go on a trailer I was thinking of building..

I am going to see if a set of these might fit your disk brake setup :D

Image

I want it under 10" wheels though so we will see....

You are welcome at any time Tadhg! I work slow as it is - no one would really want to watch me take 1.5 hours to custom make one bracket :P

PM sent.
