What makes it a WORKS mini ?

I was always under the impression that production cars only had the
motors blueprinted, other than that they were relatively standard

Built by BMC, Special run, ( Re: Castrol Green paint code) Built and run by BMC, driven by a factory Works driver, Paddy Hopkirk.

no different than a FPR car.... built by them, raced by winterbotttom, thats classified by V8 Supercars as The Ford works team. I see no different.....

It is a works Mini because it was built, entered and raced by the Australian BMC factory.

HHHHHMMMMMM...................

It seems this is taking yet another turn. Please don't stop posting because I'm fascinated by everything that is taking place. Think I've passed the "15 minutes of fame" and am now in the second hour.

On another note I finally phoned Bob Holden this afternoon and after a hesitant start (well he is he and I am me - needed to establish why I was phoning him) we had a fabulous chat.

Hey - get this - he and Paddy Hopkirk are good friends and if it wasn't for the launch of the new rally mini in England Paddy would have been at Bob's place in the next week or two.

WOW..................but I will get to meet him when he next comes to visit.

Bob will be at Zetland on Sunday (of course) and we will meet there. Then we will get together later on to put more history together and he said he wants to help me with Paddy - the sorting and selling.

By the way just in case anyone thinks they know where I live and think they can come and have a sneak peak while I'm not here - don't bother.

When I'm away from home my brother is here - mainly to feed the "critters" but it would now seem to be "on guard" as well.

This reminds me of the ABC Radio car phone in... an Old chap phoned up and didnt know what he had, so Will Hagen asked some questions and the answers where..... "Yeah its one owner, its done about 60,000km from new. Hasnt moved in 20 years, Its Orange Ford....... " Oh its got something poking out the bonnet, and it has two Kangeroos with wheels,"..... In other words it was a FALCON GTHO pahse 3........

Will Hagen said, I think it would be worth about $300 -$600"
THe old bloke said three hundred to six hundred, That much?" sounded suprised, And Will said, " No, $300,000 - $600,00." the caller went dead silent...

THe next several hours on ABC Toowoomba radion they kept announcing that they were not going to release any details to callers ie address, or Phone number... etc.....

But an FPR car is not a standard car

Not saying that this car is not worth alot of money
just saying that you can't compare to another works car from england
(worth 100,000 pound) when it was raced once at bathust and came 8th

I'm still working on the "continuity" of the engine and all I can say there is that the two rebuilds (by my husband - he was very, very good at buildlng and rebuilding engines) while I've owned it don't really matter as I still have all the original parts that came to me with the car.

As to whether they were pat of the original engine (as in Bathurst 1967) I don't as yet know. There is much to still be discovered and added to the story. However, we (me and my new found "Paddy" friends) will work it all out.

On the other hand apart from the windscreen wipers (Paddy doesn't have any right now and I doubt they were itemised - but there are at least 20+ here) I can vouch for every bit of the body shell and all bits attached - they are all exactly the same as the day I bought Paddy back in Januray 1995.

Oppppssss - but not the tyres. They are definitly not the original ones. I'm not sure about the current wheels either but the ones that were on him the day I bought him will still be here.

My husbands car (Wendy) was originally "Special Burgundy" but he painted the roof white soon after he bought her. He also did a lot of other "decorating" over the years before she turned into the full race special.

I do intend to do her full history as well but that may prove a bit more difficult as she was lovely but never actually "famous".

Pity really - but she was also dearly loved for a very long time.

May...stop your fussing and worrying, it don't matter how many rebuilds the engine has had so long as the engine number matches the tally plate on the cars body...well thats original enough after all these years.

Than again, there are some twisted and perverted Mini fans out there who might like to say "Yes...that piston set I have mounted above my bar actually was raced by Hopkirk at Bathurst in 1967!"

PS I can get you a good supply of used pistons...we might be on to a good little earner here    :D
