YES YES YES! I'll TAKE TWO!

I pay kesh now mate!!!

Seriously though, I have been looking for rubber mats for the 850 for the last 10 years - every now and then hearing about a reproduction but nothing ever eventuating :(

I have some detailed pictures of a rear rubber mat which I can send, the only decent front mats I've ever seen were the ones on the Welsh's Smoke Grey Sports 850 and white 850 (from NSW, featured in TME, I think I saw the sports 850 on ebay so it might be sold on now?)

It is the last item on the restoration list for me!

I have seen the same pattern/texture of rubber mat on many commercial vehicles and utes such as Ford F series utes etc, so is the material sold by the metre or have these just had the same texture molded into them?

Also while we're here, what about the rubber boot mat? Has anyone done a repro on these? The early Volvo 240's have the same texture mat and you can usually find a good one at one of the self serve wrekers around the place - I was just planning to cut one down and use my heat gun to put a flat edge around the outside of the mat.

Anyway, any advice at all would be much appreciated!

Sorry about bumping an old thread back to the top, but does anyone know of any further 'developments' with rubber mats?

I'm not after any full sets myself at the moment, but perhaps in the years to come. Although an accurate reproduction boot mat could be good for the Saxon Green 850.

Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks, Evan.

I've been talking to a guy who says he can remake them - needs a minimum run of 10 to make it worthwhile

I'm sending him some pics tomorrow and will call over and see him when we get back from Goulbourn - watch this space

Well done that man!

Its not entirely correct that the old names and images are completely forgotten from an intellectual property (IP) point of view, there are trademarks held on some of the old symbols. However I think the mats had Morris on them yeah? So from what I've found that's a bonus.

The BMC rossette comes up on IP Australia as being owned.

Morris seems to be clear , I can't find any entries

Austin However is owned by the Chinese!

Are these mats the ones that are grey and have a oblong box style pattern ? and are the boot mats the ones that go up the boot lid ?
If so I would imagine that they would sell like hot cakes in the world market. :D I would take a set for sure.

I think this is a great idea, but just look carefully at the costs. I got a quote for a one off not too long ago and was $350.00 for the set.

Just been out to check what's in my 850. It has a home made vinyl front, and when I lifted it to see if the original was still there, the drivers side was sopping wet under the dry mat!

So you could say this thead just saved my floor! :D :D

Put me on the list for a set of mats. (or 2)

I'd be after 2 sets. I can provide photos and depending where you are can provide mine as templates. The fronts are gone but I might be able to source some as a loaner.

I had a chat with marcello about this when I sold him some interior trim a couple of years back. I looked into this about fifteen years ago but never got the project off the ground. I think this was the guy that I originally talked to:

Obsolete Rubber Mats
2 Glencara Street , Avondale Heights, VIC 3034,
Phone: 0412 941 799

He used to advertise in Unique Cars and did all sorts of repro mats, but alas no Mini stuff. He needed a perfect mat to work from and also the front part of the floor so that the mat was moulded to the right shape. I have the right floor section and a bunch of 850 mat sections but couldn't get something good enough to use as a master. I really wasn't convinced that I could sell something that wasn't a perfect replica.

The cost wasn't outrageous by the time you looked at getting 10+ units made.

Note that there are two slightly different versions of the 850 mat, but unless you had seen both you would never pick that you had the wrong version for your car. They also seem to be coloured in some way to match the interior, i.e. the back is a different colour to the top.

The deluxe/minimatic mats are completely different of course.

Good observation Paul, I agree there are at least two types of 850 mat, one with a bit of fleck in it.

There are more than one Deluxe / Auto mat too, the deluxes had the Morris emblem, but I'm fairly sure my auto is plain on the tunnel there.

Then, don't forget the Povo Pac models, magic wand Mini Minors, even the early clubmans had mats.....

Where to stop?? :?
