i did it for quite some time, i don't think its a case of you trying to steer clear of the police cause thats not going to happen. All it does is attract the wrong kind of attention. Im not putting it down, i think it looks very cool. I also think you should put them on however, get ready for the inevitable pull over. Just make sure everything else is looking good to. Once they pull you over they tend to have a further snoop around.

DO IT!

Bill

I used to have the number 7 on big white circle on my red mini and now have a big black 8 on my current mini... never ever ever had any issue with it ever with police....

I never drive my minis like a d'k head though either....

i reckon almost any dealings with the flashy light brigade depend mostly on what mood they're in and you're attitude towards them...

in my 'fairly extensive' dealings with traffic cops i've had a multitude of differing experiences...

worst - was in a stock as pulsar but i was being a dickhead...

medium - 2 separate occasions both in very defect-able very quick rotaries just getting speeding fines, not even getting the vehicles looked at because i was being a grown up...

best - being told i was treating a road as my racetrack ( i was - it was 1km from home) and getting off with a warning...

so the moral of my stories is... it they wanna do you they will, even if your car is stock they can defect it... numbers will draw attention but hopefully in a mini they just go " awwww isn't it cute!"

I had race numbers on my mini for years in sydney and never once got pulled over or questioned about them. My car is also loud and has a roll cage but i think if you give them the respect they deserve they wont harass you, touch wood ive never had a ticket for anything!

In the early ninities I was involved with some classic "Touring Road" type navigation rallies.

The Officials of these rallies wanted us to remove or cover our number (tape X) when the rally was over.

I suspect this was more to do with associating any "hoon" behaviour with there event - and the associated issue in getting the event permits and approvals for the next event.

I know the "plod" always knew the routes we were using and came out for a "friendly" bit of spectating...
