Could the hi low have wound itself down? I've seen jacks do that, somehow they just unwind themselves :shock: I've never played with hi low's before so I don't know if that is even a possibility.

Ultra uncommon.
I've never experienced it personally, but I guess there is always that opportunity. There are lock nuts fitted to just about every hi-lo that I have seen - whether it was done up properly is another thing.
But I think while the full weight of the vehicle is pushing down on the threads, there would be little chance for the hi-lo to work its way down.

I did see one once that the lock nut was wound down. It took a few years but eventually it pounded the thread out of the aluminium 'trumpet', then it did settle in quite a sudden way. I asked the owner about the lock nuts and if he knew they were wound down. He then looked and me and asked what a lock nut was...........
