Gunna run one of those chinese radiators and no engine fan. What size thermo fan works best?

What brand should I look for, or just go for one of the cheapies off ebay?

What is the best way to mount them? Inside the wheel well with a blanking plate of some sort, and a good seal between the rad and inner guard? Or straight to the radiator?

i got a 'calibre' 10 inch from supercrap.

i think it's their homebrand... i bought 2 on special for 70 bucks, i think they're normally $60 each...

it mounts up nicely inside the wheel arch, and pulls a lot of air through into the wheel well...

Haha. Reading tells me that a 9" will fit on the radiator, and a 10" may not.

Also... someone convince me not to waste my time and simply use the standard fan.

i still run a standard fan.. my thermo is there because of a few reasons...

the car had one when i got it, but its bearings were knackered so all the wiring was already there...

someone has butchered my inner guard panel so any affect of the shrouds is now non existent...

i live in adelaide where it gets fairly warm...

when i rebuild my motor i'll consider an electric water pump and piss the normal fan off, freeing up some space under the hood!

I started off with mine mounted directly to the radiator but found getting the radiator in and out then became more difficult for working on the car.

I now mount 10" ones on the wheel side of the guard with a strip of rubber from clark rubber to complete the seal between the radiator and the fan. I also run a bit of black sikaflex around just to seal up any gaps. I find that works pretty well like that. I always keep the standard engine driven fan on though.

Whilst I'd not suggest ditching the engine fan, if you must make sure everything is done properly.

Remove the engine side shroud to allow for air flow.
Leave the steel shroud on the inner wing, and some pinchweld type stuff around it to seal against the radiator.
In the guard, fit the biggest fan you can (or a small one with high air velocity).
Make sure the fan has a shroud around it so that the air from the engine bay to the wheel arch HAS to go through the fan, and no way round.

Poeee if you want someone to tell you otherwise, just wait for one of the regular nay-sayers to jump on and question why you're 'replacing a fan designed for australian conditions with another one".

Take a look through Matt's dirty sanchez build, there's a lot of discussion there about thermo fans, and where to mount them

i bought a hi flow fan Kenlowe with the uprated motor and the ebay alloy rad.

i found it would not pull enough air to keep it cool so now running the mechanical fan and a mini spares super 2 core rad & it never over heats.

if it was front mount i think i would have been fine.

i would go front mount if i was you.

I have just ordered 2(one for each radiator) SPAL fans, have a better blade shape imo and 2 davis craig electronic water pumps, designed to run 10 yrs non stop!

These are the last parts of my supercharged engine build. emailed those chinese dudes from ebay, bought the radiator and got them to make me a smaller reversed one for the other side of the engine bay, bargain for $80

Mucked around with a 10 " then bought a 9 " ebay one. Then fits in body cowling with no mods. No mech fan , but run an old transmission cooler as aux rad as well. I run the A+ alloy chinese rad which already has threaded hole in bottom tank for a thermo switch, but you would prob then need an A+ cowling too - the plus is that 3 bolts and the whole Rad comes out!

any pics/details of the aux radiator they made you?

heater cores are usually the go but they can get a lot dearer than 80 bucks, i reckon a lot of us contemplating auxilliary rads would like to see? :)
