Sure it works. The cams are same overall length, only difference as you say is the lobes are 1/8" wider on a 1275.
Do wide ones last longer? I dunno, but I've seen 1275s run fine for years with reground smallbore cams in em. One had a Kent MD286 grind on it.
The main prob these days with using any pin drive cams in a 1275 is finding Cooper S oil pumps with the longer pin- they are NLA in UK.
In the old days when most pumps were Concentric brand you could swap the pins by pressing them out. Not applicable now with many of the aftermarket pumps.
You can convert a pin drive cam to slot drive then use a Metro 1300 pump, see my sticky thread in the mods forum.
