Running Barney every day, I'm constantly on the look out for ways to improve usability, whilst maintaining his period appeal. One of the things I've noticed is that during the day, I have trouble seeing the indicator lights flashing and I often leave them on. I'm considering some of these in green. Ebay listing suggests they will fit an 8mm hole. Anyone tried anything similar or anything else?

well, that's what it's there for!

to be a completely anal, it's not roadworthy if the canceller doesn't work, as it was fitted and working originally

Minis originally came with self-cancelling indicators with a flashing green light? Well there's a novelty. Mine no longer has either

Fit the correct flasher can that makes noise.

I can hear mine over the 1330 so something is wrong with your flasher can...

my flasher doesn't make noise - it's one of the fancy ones that drives LED indicators

I had an interesting effect last night, I had my right rear indicator disconnected, and when I turned on the left indicator, both left indicators AND the right front flashed, when I plugged the right rear back in, all was normal again - clever!

Old tech for the win!

On a more useful note, maybe you're seating position is not optimal hence why you can't see the indicator light on the dash.

From memory Barney had clubman reclining seats, maybe not ideal seating position? Also the steering wheel on Barney was small and chunky. Try a moto lita 14" and you may not have these "vision" problems.

I know, I know, change a steering wheel and seats to fix a LED indicator problem, but hey, If you want "period" look, that steering wheel is not "period" per se...

I once fitted a buzzer, one that wasn't too loud, it did the job but did also get to you if you were sitting for a while with the blinker on.

What i did went to Dick Smith or leading edge here in tasmania and got some smaller than what shown led light for indicators . They work darn good nice and bright . they are only about 2 to 3 mm accross with chrome bezel around them.

I've put in some Narva hight brightness LEDs for high beam, oil pressure and indicators. They are available from Autobarn for ~5.00 each I think?




They are 12V ready, have resistor in line, so just wire up and go.

Yeah, I agree. Grab a new flasher unit. the new ones have a nice loud tick.

....and the newer flasher units also make the indicators operate immediatly when you operate the flasher arm. ie the "on" flash happens first.
