But it is actually good? I've tried them all too, Castrol Edge 25W50 is the other one that is good but at twice the price. Logic says if it's cheap, it's good and it's proven, people will recommend it?
What is the alternative scenario? it's cheap, it works, it's proven to work but DON'T buy it?

Yes I agree.
I use it...far more knowledgeable people use it, so it's good enough for me.
Very few people could categorically prove one oil over another.
What is amusing/interesting is that people in general will go to their deathbed believing the marketing surrounding any brand name product.
When a marketing group sits down to figure out how to "place" a product to
convince the average mug to buy it, THEY DO NOT concern themselves with the truth but they spend most of their time thinking up catchy phrases and who to sponsor and where to run the adds. The rest of the time convincing stores to stock it. And the legal guys then check to make sure they cannot get sued for false advertising.
Marketing is there for no other reason then to con you and
make you feel good about yourself Look at those turkeys that cover their windows with stickers and those that proudly wear the brand names all over themselves.
Marketing talks about "perceived advantages"....that gobbly gook for "How can we convince you to buy this crap and make you feel good about yourself"
It's the same process whether it's your breakfast cereal, nut bar or oil for your car AND YOU WILL PAY A PREMIUM FOR IT even if it's an inferior product.
Make a stand against marketing, buy "unbranded" products that are good, even superior when available.
Thanks for listening.
