I am looking at buying a clubman and i have access to an old round nose wagon which is only suitable for parts... good front end

For the work required, you'd be better off buying the car you really want, rather than modding a Clubman. Or go further and flip front it (not sure if you can legally do that in Oz).

To remove the guards, drill out the spot welds. To clean up the roundie front, you'll need to do the same but from the other side, i.e. drill through the panels you don't want to keep the panels you do.

You'll also need to change the inner panels, bonnet etc. It's doable but a lot of work for no return.

I remember Simon K saying something about removing front guards. "they are easy to get off, but it depends on how easy you want to get them back on" or something very similar. So basicaly i think you could just angle gring it off, but then it would be basicaly useless. If you do manage to unpick the clubman front without damaging it, then i would be interested in it. I need a front for my Race car project!

It's not that hard but you do need access to the round nose inner guards and a few other bits and pieces. It may not be that easy to just cut the old front end off and weld the other on as it takes a bit of measuring and checking to get all of the panels to line up correctly.
Main item is time and patience and some metal working and welding skills.

What about the issue of removing body number on the radiator shroud? How do people get around that? I'd be interested in doing this to a car I have, but I don't fancy tipping lots of cash into something and finding out I can't register it!

Refit the Clubby shroud to your roundy inner guard.

I refitted the clubbie top of the shroud after modifying it to the same shape as the round nose. Was not that difficult.

Lots of sharp drills to drill out all of the spot welds.
I have many more photos of the proceedure but I didnt want to put them all up on Ausmini and send every one to sleep.
