on ausmini recommendation i got one of these,

is this a straight bolt up or are there any things to keep in mind before i go at it?

It's a straight bolt up.
I kept the Mini solenoid as a terminal strip with the following wiring mods:
1. put Mini starter cable on top of battery cable stud.
2. drill out the starter end of the cable to suit new solenoid stud size.
3. remove the red/white `start' wire, extend it to the new starter spade lug and plug in.

Correction, it's a Chinese copy, with the mounting holes already slotted. :wink:

haha! I spotted the slots!

I'm very happy with my gemini starter, $45 from the wreckers and it had been recently reconditioned.

I needed one because my last good starter motor crapped itself, and getting the Gemini one was the quickest way to replace it :)

We put this one in Barney because the old Lucas one was tired.
Being pre-engaged unlike a Lucas, it doesn't throw the bendix out if the motor gives a few isolated kicks.

All the others on my spares pile were pretty much in the same condition, and a UK factory reconditioned Lucas (as now in my 1360) was almost the same price back then.

They are superior to the lucas ones IMO. I bought a reconditioned Lucas one and it died after a year so I got fed up and got one of these, first time every time now...

do you need to put an earth to the starter solenoid?, as it looks like there isnt one in the pictures

No, it earths through the starter body, flywheel housing and earth strap.
