My fuel pump struck a leak today.I found the screws had cracked the case.
I tried installing an old Datsun bluebird pump I had lying around but this runs constantly.
The car did run for a while but then stalled,I guess theres too much fuel pressure.
I will shop around for the correct pump this week.

Are you after the correct SU pump for a cooper s or just any electric pump suitable?

Facet do an electric fuel pump (available from Repco type places, robbos etc) for around $100 that many of us have used with success, but they too run all the time as far as I know.

Ps - I thought Bluebirds used the cam driven mechanical pump used on most of the L series engines?

Thanks for the info guys,I am buying the correct pump (solid state)from mini spares UK.
$113 plus shipment.Lot cheaper than I could by one here.
As for the Bluebird pump,it came out of my old 1982 model which had a elect fuel pump as standard.
Regards Felix

Just received my new elect fuel pump(auf214en) from England.3 working days to get here, not bad.
The pump appears to have 2 vent connections,1 near the inlet/outlet pipes and 1 near the elect terminal.
I presume I only connect my vent hose to the one near the fuel connections and leave the other open to atmosphere?

No, you connect the other one to the vent hose. This keeps water out of the points, or whatever electronic gizmos live in there instead.

Hi Kevin,
Had another look at the new pump and the other vent is for the electronic part which I think should be left open.
Where does the vent line run to,it appears to run forward from where the pump mounts to and dissapears.
Regards Felix

It runs up to a nylon fitting mounted in the kickboard, under the back seat.
IF it's a Cooper, Cooper S or 850.
It was to keep the insides of the pump dry from road slush.
