Hi all i have done a compression test on my 1098
here are the results
CYL Dry Wet( wd40 sprayed in)
1 115 115
2 115 120
3 120 120
4 50 120

Seems i may have a stuck ring causing the blowby

what are the old tricks to solve this with out pulling the beggar out if there are any??

i have heard something about using ATF or is that a con??

many thanks in advance

Gadgets

 Those readings are all low. But the % differentiation is ok (with the WD40). You may have a busted ring!

I have used the two bottles of engine flush for stuck rings and it worked well! Not sure I know the ATF one!

Sounds more like you need to Wynn's Engine Rebuild!

With numbers like those, the quick and successful trick is new rings, probably along with new pistons and a re-bore.....

thanks guys

looks like a rebuild is inevitable

BTW what should the compression rates be out of interest??

and how much would be looking at ( a ballpark figure) for a rebore, new pistons rings n bearings assuming the block is okay

My 1100 has had around 120 - 125 for the last 12 years.

#4 dry certainly is a bit of a worry.

Use much oil does it? Have you shined a torch in the plug hole and had a look around? Sometimes you can see the problem - my 850 came with a very tired Morris 1100 engine, used to smoke like a chimney, when I looked down one bore with the piston near tdc I could see a chunk of the crown missing near the edge!

Yeah that engine got removed quick smart, it never did die on me though...

... but when pulled down most of the top rings fell off the piston in pieces, if they weren't fused in the ring lands...

cheers,

Jacob

150 to 170 is good, what you want is balance though (maybe no more than 10%).

As Morris said, you can have some cars with low readings but balance and they seem to go for ever.....but not with one cylinder reading like your number 4!
