Generally when there is a fair bit of steering lock there will be a clicking sound as you go around corners, should be noticable at low speeds (due to having majority steering lock on).

If they get bad they can also click while going in a straight line.

If I were you I would check the boots on each side to see if they are in good condition. If you find that there are rips and tears in either then it would be best to replace them.
