And when he asks WHY he's boring it, tell him it's all to do with the ******' engine number. Bloody RTA...

1060cc is no longer a 998! it's only 38cc away from 1098! For a "998" it would be impressive

KB....I gave them a wipe with kero, thats all. The motor I scored had only recently been rebuilt...so these puppies don't have many miles on them.

Chris, I am keen to see/hear/drive Viv with her new heart. I am off work all next week, and sadly not going away....feel free to drop in (drop me a PM or call first)

Went to the engine machinist today, and dropped off my block, pistons and head.

The bores are getting a +.020" bore and hone, and block is getting a hot wash = $120

Head is getting wet blasted, valves, guides, hardened seats, seals, faced, etc = $250 (supplying my own valves). I did buy standard 1.000" exhaust valves, but the machinist said the old 1.090" exhausts were fine, and why go backwards to original size?!? The head has oversize inlets too....and has been ported heavily.......so should flow pretty well

All comes back by the weekend...... :D

Anton, I'm probably an alarmist here, but.. check the heads of those 1.090" exhaust valves with a magnet..

The only 1.090" diameter valves I can think of in a Mini are 850/998 inlet valves- they are only Silchrome steel and won't last as exhausts.
These valves are magnetic, whereas all exhaust valves are not.

You can get O/S exhausts, but they are 27mm (1.062") not 1.090".

Of course, they could well be specials. I used to make exhaust valves from Dufor/TRW `K-steel' 21/4N blanks..

Jim, it's not GR, if that's what you were thinking!

These guys build high performance big block chevs....they had 2 brand new aluminium cylinder heads from a big block on the bench where I dumped my stuff.....OMG  you should see the ports and valves in these puppies!!!!!

Geez you're good...I went Googling for some stats, and found this PDF:

22 page PDF file on engine overhaul - right click, save target as.....

Page 1 says 850cc inlets are 27.76mm (1.090").....and I have 'em in the exhaust..... :? interesting mod........

Nice to also see I have 12G295 inlets (30.95mm) :D

Countless books (eg Mini Car Clinic catalog) and Car club tech pages say 850 & 998 intakes were 1.0625 but they are NOT. They are 1.090".
