Nissan might call it their A series, but nothing fits ours...
Cam and pushrods are on the RH side, for starters. But yeah it's a better head and port design (maybe coz it's 30 years younger).

My boss used to work on a sports sedan which was Gary Semens(spelling?) which ran one of these with a turbo. Apparently the car was extremely quick but rather good at destroying the gearbox.

If i wasn't so lazy i would call Fred Sayers and ask what happened to the motor, as i believe he now owns the car with an a series engine back in it, as i wouldn't mind throwing it in my sports sedan :D

I'm at "a stage" of fitting a Suzuku swift (G13A) block to a mini box similar to this guy http://www.16vminiclub.com/forums/showt ... ni+gearbox his is currently further progressed than mine but both projects seem to have stalled   this is my build thread so far http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... uki+engine
The crank end adaptor seems to be the issue, being able to transfer the power from the new engine into the mini box is tricky...same problem with any engine block conversion.

Thanks Kennomini, so your the guy we could remember :D

I was thinking some time ago that it would be an easier way to do a R1, blackbird or bussa conversion, blanking plate on a series box, motor/gearbox mounted on top of blanking plate with necessary welded mounting points etc, sealed chain drive from motorcycle drive sprocket to input shaft of a series box.

This way you get reverse gear, cheaper, ultimate choices of gear ratio's and sequential shifting.

I've posted this before but I'll say it again... A Harley Twin Cam 96 engine would be awesome... Imagine the sound coming out of a Mini :-) Oh, and the torque!

I remember in the late 80 a Guy who's name I can not remember ..Greg or Gary from Brisbane, he used to have an Ignition lead business (BIG GUN or something) he had a mini with a ford Motor bolted to the box which later on he even bolted a supercharger or a Turbo to it as well. I nearly bought a Modified box from him to do the same to my speedway Mini but it was too much of a Mod and I would have had to race against very big capacity V8 if I modified my Mini that much and it would not have been much fun.

Yes It was Gary, And the leads were TOP GUN. I wonder what became of Gary and his Mini. I have not seen him since 1992.

many moons ago I followed up the Lotus/ford engine option with the following:

Brian at Link mentioned a complete racing car with Lotus head was in a shed up country. I seem to remember Benella.

I then called the UK to a firm who were known for the conversion. They told me the G-box was actually 2 welded together. The top was from a special racing series Ford BDA and the bottom from a mini and the two were welded together. They mentioned the alloy racing sump was getting hard to find but they could follow it up if I was looking to place a deposit.

The price felt like a weight dropping on me, 5000 pounds. I didn't follow it through.

It's a dead end task as you still end up with an old engine design for a lot of effort.

There's an article on Bill Quine (owned and ran Manx Developments on the Isle of Man) in the current issue of TME.
The Ford/Mini box mod was popular back then.

I've posted this photo on here before. I wonder if this is the same car you are referring to? I've been searching for it without luck. The photo was taken when Lindsay Siebler owned it.

Wow, where are those exhaust headers running? Looks like exhaust must be coming out the side of the car

Gary ended up selling the business, i don't know how long ago though. I believe Fred Sayers bought the car off of him as well.

I believe at the moment he is into racing historic motorbikes at a fairly high level and he still has a varied collection of classic and sports cars.
