My alt went on me today....guess it was punnishment for bashing it with a big hammer yesterday I assume this is the case as I am getting a sqealing noise from the engine bay under exceleration and my gauges are wobbling heaps too. Is there any aternters say from a gemini or something that will bolt on? Have got an option of re-doing the bearings on the one I have for around $160. Got quoted $280 from a guy in Wyong

I fitted a HQ one to mine for a while....

needs 2 GENERATOR adjuster arms joined (the HQ one is 180 mounting, not 90 - so you need a longer adjusting arm...)

90 amps, cheap as chips.....

75A Bosch one from a Pulsar fits good, you need 2 adjusters joined together, and remove the spacer from behind the pulley.
$40 or so at the wreckers..

yeah that is a rip job. you'd be better off with second hand ones for that money. the same alternator was used in Ford Escorts of the time as well, which is where mine came from.

or, as the doc said, you can go for a newer one.

also also - make sure you don't have a short somewhere behind your dash that kills the alternator. i went through a few one time before we got an auto-elec in to take a look, and he found the short.

I distinctly remember spending a good half hour writing a pretty comprehensive guide to the Pulsar alt conversion, back in the days when I was still contributing to this forum. Do a search in mini mods and it should be there.

The pulsar one is worth the effort. 75amps is a massive amount for a mini. Even with the Lucas sealed beam headlights, I can't complain!

yeah, i think the alt on Viv is gone...will replace with a standard one i have under the house, if thaat doesnt work ill try something newer i think

Rover ones are fine... but they cost a fair deal more. Pulsar one cost me $45

All depends on your preference really.

I have a reco 16ACR Lucas spare, and a brand new one... so the other ones on the cars will never fail!

Not 100% sure what mine is - bought the car with it in. I think it's a commodore one. Whatever it is, it's a big bastard
