Do you want original photos from 1971-2 or shots of restored cars.

There is quite a good original colour shot in the book "Spotlight on the Mini down under"

No leads should be black with a salmon coloured cap over the plugs. Similar to 71 cars.

First shot is a period pic from a magazine article I think.

The second two are of a very deserving prize winner at the 50th celebrations at Wakefield.

On the Unrestored GT by Bubbacluby I can see a relay mounted on the Air duct. Possibly for the horn. Not very original but a good thing. I hope this car is inline to be restored.

Thanks for posting these pics as I'm still gathering info before I start my GT resto.

The GT had production changes over its life so its not so straight forward.

From these pics I can see differences in the washer jets and the Australian logo on the rocker cover. The period pic is also missing the rear bonnet rubber. Any idea of when these changes may have taken place?

Steve

Nicely spotted. I think my car had driving lights on it at one stage, so thats what that was. No it shoudlnt have been there.

Yeah its undergoing a restoration, all beit a very slow restoration.

Incredibly nice car that one and a real credit to the owner.

Regarding the washer jets, that period photo (found in "spotlight on the mini downunder") Is an early model GT because it has the external regulator. It has the single sided chrome wiper jets, My yellow one above (11/72 model - one of the last with removable chest covers) also has chrome single sided washer jets. So I would think that the black jets on the restored car is incorrect.

The rear black bonnet rubber, I dont have an answer for as mine has it and i thought all of them would have come with them, but must be a later model thing? never noticed that before.

Sorry Rookie what year/month model is your GT again? I forget

Brenton

Feb 72.

And just like yours, mine has the emission sticker in front of the compliance plate.

Even though I posted that period pic (I think it's from a Modern Motor road test) I think it can sometimes be a little tricky as the cars given to the press at pre or early model release are often very early cars that could have subtle differences to perhaps the cars that roll off the line when production actually got into full swing.

We always have to keep in mind that many of the subtle differences we all argue about were rather irrelevant changes back then.

You see the same thing with shots for advertising material which would be taken well before full production started. Sometimes these could be shots of pre-production hand assembled cars for example.

Photos of cars like Brentons are actually quite useful and valuable as they are relatively undisturbed.

Hey Brenton

Can you tell if yours had the external regulator fitted or were the holes just there on them all :?: What month/year is yours :?:

Cheers
Steve
