Well....... Marion has a leaky fuel sender unit - looks like someone's had a go at fixing it before as the unit is slathered in silastic.

I've heard of people having trouble with this before - any hints?

My tip, don't use silastic, it dissolves in petrol. :lol:

It's the later type yeah? The early ones with the 6 screws holding the sender in had a cork seal. Later ones with a rotating clamp to hold the sender in has these:

They're off the shelf locally as well, and easy to change as long as your tank is nearly empty.

If it is the early one it will be a gasket problem.

I would use Permatex/Loctite No3.

Wait till others post and say what it really correct. :D

I had this problem when I put the cooper back together
There are 2 places that you get leaks from:
1. The gasket itself (made a new one using nitrile impregnated cork gasket material available from Bursons)
2. The 6 screws that clamp the sender have small copper washers to seal the heads of the screws and they dont like being used again. It is very hard to get them to seal again.

I overcame this problem using good old Stag Jointing paste (plumbing suppliers). Stag is petrol proof.

A small amount around and under the head of each screw should fix it

the previous owner hadn't used silastic but something that set hard, I had to chip it all off, got the sender out and cleaned it up ok, covered myself in evil smelling goo and then managed to put the bloody thing in the wrong way round :oops:

on the second attempt one of the screws felt suss, called for a second opinion, cleaned the thread and tried again, it's sitting out there now - will try fuel in the morning

Being tall and having a suss back I find doing anything in the boot is a reak pain, I'm just not flexible enough for that :wink:
