I had a bit of a look on the TAFE website (worst web layout ever!) and I can't find anything except "An introduction to car restoration" course at Wagga.
I found the panel beating course but it says that it is not being offered at the moment anywhere in NSW. :?

Anyone find anything else?

Have a look at this page for TAFE NSW courses:

https://www.tafensw.edu.au/howex/searchTextResult.do

At the college where I am we have a Cert II in Automotive (Specilisation in Paint Preparation - course 5356). These courses and others at TAFE's should enrol mid year for semester 2 starting July 18th. You should be able to go to the college on the general enrolment day and enrol. I have done this course and for the most part it is full of people restoring their own cars, so most project work is working on their own panels or complete cars. This course cover preparation, primers, acrylics and 2K systems. Attendance is usually I night a week, cost about $225 a semester which will equate to 18 weeks or 18 nights. There should never be problem with getting into the courses. The class I did only had 7 or 8 and they were wanting another 5 or 6 more.

If you want panel beating then try course 5299.

Anything higher than the Certificate II and you will have to be an enrolled apprentice.

I wonder if these days they still teach people to repair anything. Most cases it is 'replace' ! That is where I love what I do as I still repair and that is all I ever did. You don't learn much from consulting a machine to tell you what is wrong with a vehicle and replacing components and hoping for a positive result.

At this stage you can enrol at North Sydney and maybe at St.George if they get the numbers. No scheduled delivery for Mt Druitt for semester 2.

I am a Head Teacher in TAFE and just checked the proposed delivery programes. All the teachers I have met that deliver the courses are old school and prefer to repair rather than to replace.

It's definitely a "fix it if at all possible" kind of course. :D

My teacher helped me repair one door skin, and then for something different (the first one was actually rooted, so repairing two of them in a row was not a sane prospect), we fabricated a new skin from flat sheet metal. Just finished making a replacement battery box tonight.

And I must admit I don't possess many special talents when it comes to panelbeating, as my left thumb will attest

St George TAFE update:

As miniDave mentioned, they are trying to get another night up and running in 2nd semester. I spoke to my teacher tonight, not sure which night of the week it will be but they are trying to get an idea of numbers (workshop fits 15 students).

If you are interested in doing the course at St George, contact the panelbeating workshop and ask about the Certificate II course in panelbeating (course #5299) to get your name on the list. Telephone number is 9598 6327.

*end of public service announcement* :o
