had my roundnose van blasted and primed in 2008 for ~$600. excluding underside as they weren't able to get the tar off easily enough (and it was just making a mess). Also need to make sure they clean all the soda out before priming, i've checked a few 'tricky spots' to find clumps of soda still left.

I've been quoted $1600 for the full car to be sand blasted. The bloke I was chatting to said soda will leave a nice finish on clean metal but won't touch rust (so sort of useless for most mini's). The price was for body (in, out & under), doors, boot, bonnet and all inan etch primer. The only place he wouldn't touch unless absolutely necessary was the roof centre as it's easy to warp.

Also get a price for them to prime the shell while they are at it - saves you a lot of time and worry.

When I can, I'm going with metal blasting.
No more than $700, and they do everything except the roof, front wings and rear quarters.
Cant be too lazy about it all, so I'll do the "easy to warp" panels myself!

There was a thread, I'm not sure if it was on... www.hemi6pack.com or on here about surface prep AFTER soda blasting - it leaves a residue that affects the adherence of your paint if the surface is not correctly prepared, so if you get it blasted, it would pay to follow up on to ensure it is prepared correcty ;-)

Just read an great article on getting the car shells acid dipped in one of the most recent mini mags, cant remember if it was miniworld or mini mag. one of the two. Maybe you should look into that.

thanx for the replies
The acid dipping sounds expensive but will look into it
I was quoted $1800 for inside outside underneath both side of swinging panels and hinges finished in etch primer
And $2000 for no primer

Whats the diff between etch primer and primer?

I keep hearing bad things on here about he consequences of acid remaining in the metal folds of the seams years on..

It's the kiss of death.

Don't take the wrong way though, it is a great process, but just not the best thing to do with anything that has 'traps' like 2 pieces of metal that have been spot welded. Some acid will be trapped between, no matter how well it is washed out.
