I got some from a local shop over here called the purple pig...but I am also told that washing machine drain hose is the right size and shape.

Maybe not, the lint would blow out all over the windscreen for months. But if you get it new, its cheap and available...

Depends on the make, I install them for a job, and there are many, many diameters ;-)

If you go to a Laundromat they have bigger washing machines there! Just a thought.

Go to your nearest Godfreys Vacuum cleaner store if you are in Victoria and ask for 32mm flexible hose . There is the el cheapo stuff and the good stuff . For the good stuff ask for the black Electrolux flexible one. The cheap stuff kinks and feels like it would colapse easily.
Otherwise any Vacuum cleaner store should be able to help you

If you want the genuine cardboard light grey stuff for you concourse fanatics
then I believe that you might find that it was used on some early Volkswagens
It is known by its brand name Kopex tubing.
I think the VW stuff was 38mm which means if you use that you have to use a reducer to make it fit the vents . Half an hour on the lathe fixes that

I got mine from the local lawn mower shop. Its the exact size of the Victa mower air breather hose. And a lot cheaper than the one they were selling from Purple Pig.
