Any spirited driving would be much better with a centre oil pick up. Self preservation!

If you are going to driving on the track at all you probably should fit a centre oil pick-up.

Would you count motorkhana's as driving on the track?

Sorry, I should've given more detail when I asked the question.

The engine (1275 A+) already has a duplex timing chain, a stage 2 cam from Camtech Australia, twin 1 1/2 SU's with K&N's, and hardened valve seats.

I'll be adding 1.5:1 roller tip rockers and a cross pin diff, along with the usual re-bore etc. My mechanic mentioned something about replacing valve springs and possibly fiddling with the head a bit to make it more fun, not sure exactly what yet though.

In terms of cooling, I have a new radiator and a 13 row oil cooler to go on it. I don't know what the water and fuel pumps etc are like. I'll have to have a look at them.

Hopefully that gives you a bit more of an idea of where I'm at. Is the central oil pick up something that can be added fairly easily later, or should I do it while the engine's out?

Keep that help coming, you wonderful human beings.

gotta be done while the engine is separated from the gearbox, and gearbox partially disassembled

centre oil pickup is a definite for any gearbox I've done

agreed central oil pick up is the first thing i do in the gear box ...

replace the water pump, thermostat ,new alloy radiator ( ebay cheaper than flushing yours and work well in quite a few race cars that i know ) oil pump ,oil preasure reliefe valve and cam followers while your at it .. cheap and good insurance..

Gearbox syncro's ?

Make sure the head gasket is a BK450

what diff ratio does it have if it's a A+ motor it could be 3:2 if so swap it for a 3:6 ..

Cheers
Beanie

Do you really need an oil cooler? Unless you are doing a lot of hot long freeway driving you won't need one. The sump is a very effective oil cooler. (it really is) and if you use an oil cooler there is a good chance that your oil may run too cold.

I was thinking of going 3.44. Seems like a pretty good compromise as I'll have a bit of highway driving as well as general running around. Thoughts?

I didn't really have any reason for adding an oil cooler, just that I saw one cheap and thought it'd be good. What's the consensus, are they worth having for just your standard 2nd car gig?

Thanks for all the help, keep it coming.
